Well, after downloading a couple of bios from the triv libraries, I felt
kinda left out, so here's my two cents :>
I was born Steven Yong on July 7th, 1976 (hence the sevens in my screen
names :>) in Pasadena, CA. My parents are both Chinese, my mother Liliane
(she was christened in France when she lived there for a couple of years) is
from Taiwan, and my father Tony (how he got his American name is quite odd,
ask me about it sometime, I may tell you :>) is from Canton China. So I am
100% Chinese. Unfortunately I can only speak Mandarin but have yet to master
the art of calligraphy. I do also speak French, a bit of Spanish, and I know
Latin (useful huh? :>) Anyways, I am an only child, which has its good and
bad sides. The best one being that I can usually get things that I need
without much fuss, the worst being that my parents expect me to be the
perfect child (hahahaha)
Since I didn't have many human companions during my childhood, I
surrounded myself (to my parents dismay) with animals of all kinds. I had
dogs, hamsters, birds, fish, and an occasional reptile. I've always wanted a
cat but for some reason my parents think they're demonic (go figure). Lately,
because of some rather unfortunate circumstances my pet count has dropped to
a sole dog (and Eskie named Shasta, the love of my life :>) and a goldfish
named Neptune which I keep on my desk here at school (don't let the school
know though, pets are illegal here :>)
In high school, I was an average student. People tell me though that
attending such a difficult high school challenged me. Harvard-Westlake High
School (North Hollywood, CA) if you've ever heard of it. It's supposed to be
at least second in the nation, but to me it was just alot of work :> I played
tennis recreationally, was on the JV Volleyball team, worked in theatre
building sets, was an editor for the yearbook, etc... The usual stuff... Now
I'm here in Boston studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Boston
University. Hopefully I can complete the requirements for the five year
Masters degree in four years, but considering I'm minoring in French, that
doesn't seem likely.
My interests include: tennis and volleyball (obviously :>), reading
mystery and some horror novels (Sue Grafton, and Dean Koontz), AOL trivia
(surprise, surprise), community service, and blowing things up in labs. :>
I haven't actually done that yet, but I have burnt some nice holes in many of
my clothes with acid. I think I'm going to start a new line of designer
jeans called "Calvin Chem" ;> But I digress... I generally like most types
of music except metal, rap, or alternative; although I prefer older music by
groups like The Fifith Dimension, The Mamas and the Papas, or the Four
Seasons. I have also done a bit of traveling in my short 18 years. I've
been to Taiwan three times, visited the east coast once b4 moving here for
college, driven through much of CA, and lately traveled across Europe this
past summer. Eleven countries in seventeen days, I *still* have the odd
impression that I saw the Eiffel Tower somewhere in Austria...
And while I have your attention, I just want to say that discovering AOL
trivia is definitely one of the best things to happen to me, all the great
trivia and great people help me get through every excruciating day of classes
:> Unfortunately trivia is also the worst thing to happen to my checkbook...
but that's another story that I'm sure most of you are familiar with also :>
I really do hope to meet all of you soon. Until then... "All the leaves are
brown and the sky is grey...I'm California dreamin' on such a winter's day"
-The Mamas and the Papas
See you in triv!!
